Privacy Policy

In-Town ("the App") is operated by Sharp Edge Technology LLC ("we," "us," "our"). This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights. The App is available only to users in the United States.

This policy describes the App only. Browsing our website, intownfriends.com, is covered separately by our Website Terms & Privacy Notice.

1. Information We Collect

When you use In-Town, we collect:

• Identity information: first name, last name, and phone number (used to identify you to friends in your group and for account authentication).
• Precise location data: your device's GPS coordinates, collected while the App is in use and, if you grant permission, in the background. Location is used to determine proximity to friends in your group. Background location, in particular, is used to update your location when you're traveling. Your most recent location overwrites your previous location (our servers don't store location history). Location data is used to allow you and friends to be notified when you're nearby while traveling.
• Usage metadata: the timestamp of your most recent location upload.
• In-App Actions: Any actions you take within the app (including sending/accepting friend requests, muting/unmuting others, settings, etc.)

We do not collect payment information, contacts, photos, health data, or browsing activity.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to:

• Notify members of your group when you are within a fixed radius of them (currently 70 miles).
• Display your first name, last name, phone number, last location upload time, and proximity status to other members of your group.
• Display # of mutual contacts (if implemented).
• Operate, maintain, debug, and improve the App.

3. How Your Information Is Shared

Group members receive your name, phone number, and proximity status—but never precise coordinates. Service providers include Google Cloud Platform / Firebase (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, and Firebase Cloud Messaging), Google Maps Platform (to display the map), and Google Forms and Google Sheets (used to route and track account and data deletion requests).

We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

• With other users in your group: your first name, last name, phone number, last location upload time, and whether you are within proximity of them. Your precise coordinates are never shared with other users.
• With service providers: we use the following third parties to operate the App. They process data on our behalf:
  • Google Cloud Platform / Firebase (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, and Firebase Cloud Messaging)
  • (deprecated) Amazon Web Services (AWS), us-east-2 region — application hosting and data storage.
  • Google Maps Platform — to display the map (previously used Apple Maps)
  • Google Forms (Google LLC) — intake of privacy requests submitted via our online request form.
  • Google Sheets (Google LLC) — storage of privacy request submissions.
  • (deprecated) Twillio — Verifies your phone number & sends the 2FA code.
• For legal reasons: we may disclose data if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of users or the public.

We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA).

4. Developer Access

Authorized personnel of Sharp Edge Technology LLC may access stored data for the limited purposes of debugging, investigating abuse, providing user support, and improving the App.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account has not been deleted. When we delete your account, all associated personal data will be removed from our production systems within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. You may request deletion by emailing us below, or by filling out the form also listed below.

6. Your Rights

Regardless of where you live in the US, you may:

• Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
• Request correction of inaccurate data.
• Request deletion of your data.

Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws (including but not limited to California, Virginia, Colorado, Texas, and others) may have additional rights, including the right to know, delete, correct, opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (which we do not engage in), limit the use of sensitive personal information, and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. 7. Security

We use industry-standard measures including TLS encryption in transit and encryption at rest in AWS to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children's Privacy

In-Town is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected such data, we will delete it. Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided us information may contact us at the email below.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify users through the App and/or by updating the "Last Updated" date and providing notice at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
