Nearby, never exact
Your coordinates are rounded before they ever leave your phone. Friends see that you're around. Nobody sees a street.
Groups you opt into
A group is the shortcut for a crowd you'd otherwise add one at a time — the cousins, the old band, the people from that trip. Join with a password shared by someone you trust. Members see each other's name, proximity, and phone number.
Friend Requests: Both sides have to agree
Add friends by QR code or a share link. A request does nothing until the other person accepts it — no following.
A nudge, not a map to stare at
In Town pushes you a notification when someone comes within 70 miles. Then you can close the app and go say hello.

Your exact location can't reach our server — the system rejects it
In Town rounds your coordinates on your phone, and the backend refuses any location updates that are more precise than that
Coarsened on your phone, enforced on the server
The backend's security rules reject any write that isn't already rounded.
No location history
Your latest location overwrites the previous one. There is no trail to follow, because there is no trail.
Delete your account from Settings
Easily delete your account, your location, and your friend and group memberships from within the app.
We don't touch the rest of your phone
In Town asks for your location and your phone number. Not your contacts, your photos, etc. There are no ads, and we don't sell or share your data for behavioral advertising.

One thing In Town is not
It isn't a safety tool. Location can be delayed, inaccurate, or unavailable depending on the device and connection. Don't rely on In Town for emergencies, to verify that someone is safe, or as a substitute for calling 911.
